Some bacteria and yeast may be inhibited by lemongrass. Lemongrass also contains substances thought to relieve pain and swelling, lower fever, improve blood sugar and cholesterol levels, stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow, and have antioxidant properties.
Lemongrass is used as a flavoring in food and beverages. Lemongrass leaves, for example, are commonly used as a “lemon” flavoring in herbal teas.
Lemongrass is used in the manufacturing of deodorants, soaps, and cosmetics as a fragrance. Lemongrass is also used in the production of vitamin A and natural citral.
